MALAYSIA GEOSPATIAL FORUM

Geospatial Building Resilient Communities
Rapid development, unplanned urbanization, climate change and environmental degradation have caused worse and more frequent occurrence of flash floods and landslides – two of the most significant disasters in Malaysia, especially in urban areas. An effective early warning system, efficient search and rescue, accurate damage assessment and immediate restoration of infrastructure are crucial in meeting the basic needs of the people, improve health and support the morale of the affected population. This programme will discuss the role of geospatial technology in disaster prevention, mitigation and preparedness in Malaysia, as well as our response to climate change issues, towards building a safe and resilient community.

Precision Farming & Forestry
Plantation and forest sectors contribute significantly towards Malaysia’s economy and environmental well-being. Conversion of tropical forests to plantations has caused major environmental issues, not only involving the conserved plant and animal species, it also caused soil erosion and contribute to air pollution and climate change. This programme shall highlight the importance of geospatial technology in plantation and forest management for both economic and environmental values.

Big Data
Explosion of different sensors and platforms in the market has caused volume of geospatial data to grow exponentially. There are two major challenges associated with Big Data: how to manage datasets of this size and how to analyse and visualize them into information. This programme will introduce to the audience the best practices of managing and analysing Big Data efficiently.

UAV
UAV photogrammetry opens up a whole new world of possibilities for the geospatial industry that was never before imagined. This programme will showcase new and interesting applications of UAVs that could complement conventional mapping technology.

Geosystems & Infrastructure
This technical session shall discuss wide-ranged of geospatial systems that include Geographic Information System, Global Navigation Satellite System, Geospatial Data Infrastructure and how these geosystems contribute to infrastructure management.
